Working with British R&B Singer & Songwriter Beverley Knight

Beverley Knight

Before I transitioned full time into composing for film and television I spent about 10 years working in recording studios all over London with a huge variety of artists, producers and bands in the 1990s as a keyboard player, string arranger, re-mixer, programmer, engineer and producer.

In 1998 I spent time working with the extremely talented Beverley Knight on her second studio album ‘Prodigal Sista’ at Battery Studios in Willesden Green, London.

I was working with the production team 2b3 (Neville Thomas and Pule Pheto) at the time as their main engineer and I spent a few enjoyable weeks recording vocals and backing vocals with Beverly. Beverly has the most amazing voice and was a joy to work with – a total professional and a real perfectionist.

I remember that each day the session would start a little later and end a little later – so after the first week we were all arriving at the studio early evening and working though the night.

The album ‘Prodigal Sista’ went on to sell over 100,000 copies in the UK and was one of the last albums that I worked on in the ‘music business’ before composing for film and TV took over my life – so it was lovely to receive a gold disc from Parlophone Records for my work on the album.

Thank you Beverley, fun times x
